| I like this book. I'm fairly new to blogging and already I've been able to utilize some of the ideas in this book. I like the little sidebars of fun things to do too! |
Oh So Helpful!

| This was amazing! I learned so much about the world of blogging from this little book. I'm using this as a reference as I go along designing my own blog, and it's been very helpful in my quest for a site designer. I would really suggest this for anyone out there who wants to create an above average site. |
Worth The Price if You're New to Blogging

I'm glad I bought this book - how could I resist the title? I had blogged on and off for a year or two, but wanted to jump in with both feet.
Blogging with Moxie was an entertaining, easy-reading overview of the resources available, blogging etiquette and privacy & security tips. It also helped me think before I leaped about what my purpose was, what kind of image I wanted to present and how committed I was to blogging.
I especially liked that it helped me think through what I wanted to accomplish with my blog (marketing my fiction writing brand).
I had already chosen WordPress so some of the detailed instructions on using other tools weren't useful, but important to have in an overview. This will be especially useful for helping new bloggers decide what route they want to take, how to manage pictures and podcasts, if that's part of your plan.
The only criticism I have is that I was trying to figure out how to get an icon on my blog so readers could subscribe, and the overview of FeedBurner was very brief. Granted, Moxie sent me to the FeedBurner site, but it wasn't clear to me that I had to have FeedBurner to set up the subscription. I thought there might be other options and this didn't come out in the book. (I'm still not clear whether there are other options, but FeedBurner works great!) |
Good blogging advice

The blogging advice was pretty good, and they use a breezy style that's easy to read. However, not being a cappuchino fan, I felt hopelessly uncool. And, the beauty tips are not nearly as good as the blogging advice. Smear handcreme all over and then blog?? Uh-uh. What do you use to clean the keyboard off when it's all slimy from moisturizers? LOL! Easy to skip those bits, though. It's not bad.
The Huffington Post how-to-blog was a better fit for me, though. But, they are not really overlapping products, so it might be worthwhile to get both. Huff for the content, and Mox for the style. |

The IT Girl's Guide to Blogging with Moxie
After reading many of the reviews I decided to give this book a chance. Joelle and Katherine make learning the basics of blogging and getting your blog noticed fun. Many of the information in this book can be found online through various searches or by utilizing your preferred blog's help section, but this book provides the framework to getting started and eliminates the hours of searching and weeding through the good and the bad of blogging and blogging tools. I have found "The IT Girl's Guide to Blogging with Moxie" to be fun resource and a staple of my blogging repertoire. If you are looking to get your feet wet this book is for you. |
